More Ponderings

With Danielle Fishel receiving the honour of having her hand prints cemented in Hollywood last like it made me think of my favourite show as a youngster ‘Boy Meets World’.  Anyone under the age of 18 will probably have no idea what I’m on about but I loved this show and was completely in love with Rider Strong until I grew up and he stayed the same size.

So whatever happened to the cast of…  Boy Meets World?

Played Corey Matthews

Played Corey Matthews

Ben Savage born Bennett Joseph Savage on 13th September 1980 in Chicago played Corey Matthews, the lead Character in ‘Boy Meets World’ from 1993 – 2000.  Boy meets world was a huge Disney show winning a Kids Choice Award for Ben in 2000, the shows final year.

Ben is the brother of former child star Fred Savage who was the star of ‘The Wonder Years’.  Both brothers have found it hard to make the transition to adult star and are still working on making the transition.  Since ‘Boy Meets World’ finished in 2000 Ben won a place at Stanford University where he majored in Political Science graduating in 2004.  Since then he has interned in the office of US Senator Arlen Spector, it seems Ben is definitely planting the seeds for a political career in the future.

Within the acting world Ben has had a few minor roles in prime-time hit television series’ ‘Chuck’ and ‘Without A Trace’, he has also had a few roles in TV movies and movie of the week on US Television.  Ben is currently filming his next project TVM  ‘Doesn’t Texas Ever End’ he is 28 years old.

Played Shawn Hunter

Played Shawn Hunter

Rider King Strong born 11th December 1979 in San Francisco played Corey Matthews’ sometimes troubled best friend Shawn Hunter in the show.  Rider along with Ben won a Kids Choice Award in 2000.

After ‘Boy Meets World’ ended in 2000 Rider attended Columbia University where he was an English Major and graduated in the summer of 2004.  While Rider was studying at College he still took on major film and television roles.  Rider’s biggest role since ‘Boy Meets World’ came in 2002 in the summer Horror flick ‘Cabin Fever’.  Rider has also had roles in hit shows ‘Law and Order: Criminal Intent’, ‘Veronica Mars’ and ‘Bones’, he also regularly lends his voice to Disney’s ‘Kim Possible’.

Rider has just completed work on ‘Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever’ and ‘Penthouse’ both in the horror genre the movies are due for release in 2009.  Rider is 29 years old.

Played Topanga Lawrence

Played Topanga Lawrence

Danielle Christine Fishel born 5th May 1981 in Arizona played Corey’s long-suffering girlfriend andwife Topanga.  Danielle was originally cast as a day player on the show but when the actress cast to play Topanga didn’t work out she and another actress was asked to read for the role and Danielle ended up winning it.  During her time in the show Danielle had some high profile boyfirends including Lance Bass from nSync and Devon Sawa, she also dated show co-star Ben Savage.

Danielle was rumoured to have lost her virginity to Lance and are reportedly still close friends, I imagine their relationship didn’t work out owing to the fact that he was gay.  On Lance Bass coming out Fishel said “It wasn’t a shock for me. I found out probably a year or two after we broke up.  People magazine was not my first time knowing Lance was gay! He is an awesome guy, he was an awesome boyfriend and he is still a very good friend of mine”.

During ‘Boy Meets World’ Fishel always struggled with her weight.  Danielle is a petite 5ft 1″ so keeping her weight down was hard and the slightest amount of weight she gained made her look like she had ballooned.  In 2006 Fishel lost 27 pounds on the Nutrisystem diet and after making an appearance on the ‘Tyra Banks Show’ was asked to become a special correspondent for the show starting in February 2007.

Daniel is currently hosting ‘The Dish’ on the Style Network and is 27 years old.

Played Eric Matthews

Played Eric Matthews

William Alan Friedle born 11th August 1976 in Connecticut played Carey’s dim but lovable brother Eric Matthews.  Will Friedle was quite the hottie in his time and was in a long term relationship with Jennifer ‘Love’ Hewitt.

Since the show ended Will has had a few comedic roles in ‘Less Than Perfect’ ‘3rd Rock From The Sun’ and ‘Gold Diggers’ but it is his voice over work that is his bread and butter.  Will’s voice makes regular appearances in ‘Kim Possible’ and ‘Batman Beyond’.  Will has a huge interest in the culinary world and is rumoured to be contemplating a move into the cooking trade.  Will is 32 years old.

Played Jack Hunter

Played Jack Hunter

Matthew William Lawrence born 11th February 1980 in Pennsylvania played Shawn Hunter’s long lost Brother Jack.  Matthew is the real life brother of sitcom star Joey Lawrence and appearedwith him in the show ‘Brotherly Love’ before going on to star in ‘Boy Meets World’ in 1997.

After ‘Boy Meets World’ ended Matthew went on to study biology at USC, he had always dreamed of being a zoologist.  Matthew like his co-star Ben also dated actress Danielle Fishel.  In 2002 Matthew had a high profile role in the teen flick ‘The Hot Chick’ and has also had a role in CSI.

Matthew Lawrence has had a little success but was pushed back into the spotlight last year after he started dating ‘Dancing With The Stars’ professional Cheryl Burke.  Matthew met Cheryl while his brother Joey was a contestant on the hit series.   Cheryl and Matthew have since parted ways, Mathew is 28 years old.

So Tom Won… What’s The Big Deal?

In a series that has been marred by controversial walk-outs and voting problems on Saturday night ‘Holby City’ star Tom Chambers took the ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ title for 2008.

Fans of the show had mixed feeling about Tom being in the final at all, due to voting problems in the semi-final.  Fans attempting to vote for Tom during the semi-final were unable to save him from the dance-off regardless of whether he had the most votes or not, this is where Strictly’s problems began.  After discovering this voting glitch the shows producers decided to scrap that weeks public vote and putting all three couples through to the final.

2008 Winner

2008 Winner

At first producers stated that votes cast in the semi-final show would be carried over to the final and counted along with the new votes but mid week changed their minds and said the votes would not be carried over.

With these kinds of show you can never make everyone happy but if you think about it Tom is the most deserving winner as he was the only genuinely talented celebrity left.  Rachel Stevens, yes men find her nice to look at but after S Club the pop tartlet failed to make her solo career a success due to the lack of talent and lets face it if she did win on Saturday would have assumed we’d want her to release another solo album of pop roadkill… No thank you.

Lisa Snowden, Model and presenter?  What knd of modeling has she done exactly, we only know who she is because she dated George Clooney before that had anyone heard of her?  She heads up Living’s ‘Britains Next Top Model’ which is the sister show to ‘America’s Next Top Model’.  ANTM is heading up by Tyra Banks so the British counterpart would be Kate Moss or Naomi Campbell, the person it isn’t is Lisa Snowden.  For a person with no skills Lisa has done well for herself but I wouldn’t want to see more of her than I have to.

So this leaves Tom Chambers, if you don’t watch ‘Holby City’ like I don’t you wouldn’t have had a clue who the hell he was, but it is clear he is an actor.  The way he portrayed emotion in his routines was undeniable and you believed what he was doing because he was acting.  This teamed with the fact my little sister and mother believed he really had cancer, they thought ‘Holby City’ had written it into the show because Tom had it in real life,  shows Tom is good at what he does and deserves any breaks this show may give him.

‘Strictly come Dancing’ doesn’t change the lives of it’s contestants, it doesn’t make dreams come true and the winners don’t become dancers so whoever wins who the hell cares.

Fergalicious Wedding

Singer Fergie and super hot ‘Transformers’ star boyfriend have set the date for their up coming nuptials.

Set date for wedding
Set date for wedding

Fergie and Josh met on the set of his show ‘Las Vegas’ back in 2004 when Fergie’s group Black Eyed Peas had a small cameo role in the show, the pair hit it off and have been together ever since.

Recently Fergie has been spotted around town carrying some extra weight which ignited rumours that he may be pregnant.   Camp Fergie have vehemently denied these rumours saying that the weight gain was for Fergie’s role in new movie ‘Nine’ which she has been filming in London.
Fergie and Josh have both now wrapped on their projects and have officially set their wedding date for 10th January.  This will be a busy couple of days for the paps as Nicole and Joel’s wedding is the next day.
New Year love fests, you gotta love it.

Yes TFL Fares Are Rising

This weirdly hasn’t been in the news or in any newspapers and if it has they’ve not made a big deal of it but TFL fares are to increase at the beginning of 2009, this means buses, tubes and trams are all going to be that much more expensive in a time of financial hardship.

2009 Fare Increases
2009 Fare Increases

Dependent on where you travel determines your increase.  A monthly zones 1-4 travelcard will rise by around £12.  These rises will not go down well with commuters as purse strings are already strained and it seems we are paying for a service which is not improving.  Click herefor 2009 TFL fares.

Something needs to be done.

Breakout Star of the Season

Little known young British actor Dev Patel is setting Hollywood alight with his role in Danny Boyle’s new movie ‘Slumdog Millionaire’.

Breakout Star

Breakout Star

18 year old Dev from west London is known to British audiences for his role as Anwar in E4 teen show ‘Skins’ but it is his first movie role as Jamal in ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ which is really generating buzz.

Today saw Dev nominated for a SAG Best Supporting Actor gong and although there is stiff competition in this category from the likes of Josh Brolin, Robert Downey Jr. and the late Heath Ledger being nominated shows Dev will be a force to reckon with and has a long career ahead of him.

Two funny facts, one you may have know and one you may not…

Russel Brand auditioned to be a member of British Boyband Five and Colin Farrell auditioned to be a member of Bozone.

Boyband dreams

I can just see them now, these two are the least squeaky clean celebs there are, they would have set the British Boyband scene on fire and made Robbie Williams look like a choir boy.

Oh well, shame we never got to see them in action.
